South Gippsland Dental Clinic

General Dentistry

General dentistry refers to the range of dental services that focus on the overall health and maintenance of your teeth, gums, and mouth. It includes routine check-ups, preventive care, diagnosis, and treatment of various dental conditions like cavities, gum disease, and oral infections. General dentists provide essential services such as fillings, cleanings, extractions, and more to ensure long-term oral health.

At South Gippsland Dental, we pride ourselves on offering the best in general dentistry. Our skilled team is committed to providing high-quality care in a comfortable and welcoming environment. Whether you’re visiting for a routine check-up or need more specialised treatment, we ensure every patient receives personalised care tailored to their needs, helping you maintain a healthy, beautiful smile.

Range of services that we offer are:

Oral Hygiene Cleaning and Scaling

Oral Hygiene Cleaning and Scaling

Oral hygiene cleaning and scaling involve the removal of plaque, tartar, and surface stains from teeth to prevent gum disease, cavities, and bad breath. Scaling is typically done below the gum line to remove hardened plaque, promoting healthier gums and teeth.

Composite Resin Fillings

Composite Resin Fillings

Composite resin fillings are tooth-coloured materials used to fill cavities and restore deficient areas of the tooth. These fillings blend naturally with the tooth and are bonded to the tooth structure, providing a durable and aesthetic restoration.

Root Canal Therapy

Root Canal Therapy

Root canal therapy is a treatment for infected or damaged tooth pulp, where the infected tissue is removed, the tooth is cleaned and sealed. This procedure helps save a tooth that would otherwise need to be extracted.

Tooth Extraction

Tooth Extraction

Tooth extraction involves the removal of a tooth that may be necessary due to severe decay, infection, damage, or as part of orthodontic treatment.

Dental Crowns, Overlays, Inlays and Bridges

Dental crowns/overlays/inlays are highly aesthetic and durable porcelain materials that are placed over damaged or weakened teeth to protect and to restore their shape, size, and function. Bridges are used to replace one or more missing teeth by anchoring to adjacent teeth, providing a natural-looking solution to gaps in the smile.

Complete and Partial Dentures

Complete and Partial Dentures

Complete dentures replace all missing teeth in an upper or lower arch, while partial dentures replace only a few missing teeth. Both are custom-made to fit comfortably in the mouth and help restore function and appearance, improving speech and chewing.

Mouth Guards

Mouth Guards

Mouth guards are custom-made devices that protect teeth from injury or damage. They are commonly used for sports, grinding (bruxism), or to prevent sleep apnea, offering a protective barrier between teeth and soft tissues.

We strive to give each patient the best quality dental care possible and believe that structuring our appointments this way allows us to do that. At South Gippsland Dental Clinic, our aim is to provide you with the best dental care beyond your expectations.

Restore Your Teeth the Way Nature Intended — With CEREC® Technology

At South Gippsland Dental Clinic, we see 3–4 patients every day with broken teeth or failed fillings — most commonly old silver (amalgam) fillings. Surprisingly, many of these teeth break during everyday activities like eating. In some cases, patients don’t even realise their tooth is broken until we examine them.

Why Do Teeth Break?

Old silver fillings behave very differently from your natural tooth structure. Over time, they can create stress within the tooth, increasing the risk of cracks and fractures. These fillings can also shrink or wear down, creating gaps between the filling and the tooth — making things worse.

What’s the Best Solution?

The most effective way to restore a damaged or broken tooth is by using materials that closely mimic natural teeth — both in appearance and function.

That’s why we use CEREC® Technology at South Gippsland Dental Clinic. This advanced system creates high-quality, custom-fit porcelain restorations — often within a single appointment. Porcelain behaves similarly to natural tooth enamel, making it the ideal material for long-lasting, aesthetic restorations.

What to Expect: Your CEREC® Appointment

Examination & Treatment Planning

After assessing the damaged tooth, your dentist will decide on the best treatment — whether it’s a simple porcelain filling or a full crown — depending on how much healthy tooth structure remains.

Digital Optical Impression

Say goodbye to uncomfortable trays and sticky impression material! We use a digital camera to take a quick, accurate 3D scan of your tooth — it only takes a couple of minutes.

On-Site Design & Milling

The 3D image is used to design your restoration using advanced CEREC® software. Once the design is complete, it’s sent to our in-house milling machine, which shapes a ceramic block into a custom restoration in about 10–20 minutes.

Fitting & Bonding

Your dentist will try in the restoration to check the fit and bite, polish it, and then bond it permanently to your tooth — all in a single visit, with no need for temporary fillings or follow-up appointments.
